1. The central idea of my sustained investigation has not changed since we started:
"Investigating urban / city portraits using mixed media including painting, drawing, digital art and collage."
SI #1
This piece incorporated the collage and digital art elements of my central theme. I used a collaged city background and edited it into my car window while experimenting with overlays, saturation and hues.
SI#2
In this piece, I combined drawing and painting to create this portrait. The background of the city and the lights is more abstract which is different than what I usually do. I also attempted to make the portrait of the girl sort of monochromatic so I focused on emphasizing the pink elements.
SI #3
This piece is another digital piece where I combined multiple images and overplayed a black and white portrait over the original figure in the picture. I like how the bright color overlay I used emphasizes the movement in the piece and shows that it is a busy subway with flashing and moving lights.
MY AP GOALS:
My two goals for this year are to: a. work on my form and technique with paying more attention to detail and b. being more free with my artwork and not feeling like I need to draw everything with a plan and use perfect straight lines, basically just not be afraid to make mistakes because that is what gives artwork its freedom and character.
- I feel like I really worked with detail in my second piece and I also plan to do that in my next sustained investigation where I want to use colored pencils again or pastels because I feel like I need to take a break from digital work. For my second goal, I tried to work on that also in my second piece by letting myself be free with the background - I didn't really map it out or trace anything and I tried to be more abstract.
I really love how your sustained investigation has been going. I love the repeated use of that really pretty pink magenta shade. It really feels so cosmopolitan and city like.
