Rachel Sisson Reflection Post

Original Investigation: “I’m going to explore people’s relationship with nature and the environment in their everyday lives.”

Revised Investigation: I am going to explore the feeling of repetition and boredom of someone’s life through the activities they do over the course of one week in time.

My investigation has drastically changed since the start because I honestly got bored of my first one. I started off strong with ideas but eventually came to a stop. I wanted to change it to something more relatable to me so I came up with the one I have now. I felt like the concept of nature has been done so many times before and I wanted to do something different.

First 3 projects:

I started with my investigation about nature with artwork like this. I wanted to capture a person appreciating the environment around them. I wanted it to be simple to capture the moment.

I made this as a way to tie all of my pieces in my new investigation together. It has a bunch of events that I plan on making into my other pieces for my SI as well as a day off.

This is one of the events on the calendar. It a waiting room of a doctors office and shows how over time things seem to never change and everything stays constant. I also changed the saturation over time to show how it wears you down.

AP Goals: “My goals for this year are to develop my own style and add works to my portfolio that reflect it. I also want to add more larger, completed pieces to my portfolio.”

I want to focus on developing my own style (which I think I have already started doing) for the rest of the year. Most of my artwork is digital now that it is hard to add larger pieces to my portfolio.

  1. It is so brave of you to change your idea completely when you recognized you needed a change. I think your new idea is less explored than the nature idea and your first two pieces regarding time capture the stagnant emotion of waiting and dreading so well. Great job.

  2. I love how much your investigation has developed so far! I think you can even still see your new theme in your very first piece of like boredom in someone's life with the duller colors used. I really love especially the last 2 and think you've successfully expressed your theme.
