I was intrigued by the "echo" theme listed on the final project assignment. If you think about an echo, when you yell over a big room or out into the woods, the echo you hear only somewhat sounds like you, and when it is done reverberating it becomes unrecognizable. In this piece I wanted to reflect that echo in terms of light and shadow.
The bottom right figure is holding a candle, casting a shadow that distorts into a monster as it gets farther away from the light source. I captured this distortion by increasing the "sketchiness" (repeated, short strokes) of my white lines. The ones at the figure start relatively straight and clean, while the ones of the monster are heavily distorted.
I really love the idea behind this. I can totally see where your thought process is. Good Job!!
ReplyDeleteI think you took a very interesting approach to the prompt! The monster around the person is very well executed- his legs remind me of the monster from monsters inc. I think its a cool concept that you should explore more!

ReplyDeleteThe thought you put behind this piece is amazing! I love the texture created from the lines since it makes it look more raw and realistic rather than perfectly straight lines. I also find it so cool how you edited the piece from the sketch on paper to a more darkened and professional looking work. The process photos are so important, great job!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! It reminds me of Basquiat. I love how this i s very much your style and only you. The black and white and rough lines add more to the emotionally charged meaning of this piece.
