Cell phone addiction: I drew a teenage girl on her phone... I put newspaper in the back to represent how everything is digital now and how this screen addiction is only going to get worse. The newspaper was the normal form of getting information for a long time.

Work addiction: This piece is an example of a woman working too hard. I made the woman a dark figure to represent how dull she is when she is addicted to doing work. I made the background childish and bright to represent the world around her.

SI #3

Love addiction: This is a broken man who has been pieced back together. He is addicted to the feeling of being love, that's why he is staring at the heart even though he is already heartbroken.

In December, my idea was to explore addictions through art. I've dug a little deeper and realized I wanted to use bright colors in my artworks because it represents the light at the end of the tunnel. I have not changed my focus much, but just my style of work. I love using mixed media and I have seen myself shift towards using it in my Sustained Investigation. Addiction is something that can be cured over time and I wanted to represent the fact that people can get better rather than the suffering they go through while battling this disease. My favorite piece that I've done would have to be my 3rd investigation because I think it has the most meaning. The broken man pieced back together looking at a heart really tells a story of love addiction. 

AP GOALS:This is Mr. Newitt's artwork. He inspires me with his art because he does not really have a style, but he does whatever he wants. I like how free he is and how every painting expresses how he is feeling. The elements and principles of art and design really show in this picture. One thing I want to accomplish this year in art is learning how to not freak out if I mess up. This is a HUGE problem for me. I also want to improve my drawing skills.

I would still like to focus on not freaking out and getting discouraged when I mess up.

Trusello SI Reflection Post

My sustained investigation focuses on Tarot cards and how important milestones in life can evoke

certain emotions. My pieces are not remaking the designs, but rather reimagining them. For

example, the Death card is about the end of a phase in one's life and depicts a skeleton riding a horse.

In my rendition of the card, I took a less literal approach. I hoped to make this piece very ambiguous,

allowing the viewer to make up the meaning themselves. I wanted them to ask, "What will the

smiley face replace? Why is death depicted in a positive light?" Overall, I enjoy how all of

the pieces represent the different feelings that their cards evoke. Moving forward, I plan to adapt

the more simplistic style of my Death card and Hermit card, rather than the detailed design seen

in the Moon card.

Atkins Choice Board 13

 

For my choice board, I photoshopped (it was rough) my project idea for what I would like to draw with colored pencil. The grandmother is supposed to be extended to the bottom of the glass, but the picture ended so I thought I could easily freehand that. In this piece, I thought I would explore the effects of isolation on the elderly, so the plan is to draw the grandmother is in the museum separated from her granddaughter because of COVID.

During this period, I chose to continue planning out what I am going to do for my sustained investigation. Ms. Silverman directed me towards this artist that created the piece above, and I thought it connected to the immigration idea because to me it looks like graffiti and blood stains, a reason why many people immigrate, to escape the violence and gangs in their home country. So I was thinking I could incorporate the mixed media element in some way. I was also looking at photographs of kids that I could include in my sustained investigation. I am stuck on whether I should include a kid who is oblivious to the situation because they are protected from it by their parents, or a kid who is scared. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. During this period I was also interviewing my mom on some things she has heard of and experienced as an immigrant. She was telling me that one of the biggest problems in Mexico right now and the reason there is so much violence is because of drug cartels, and the last picture I have attached is a photograph of messages drug dealers leave that lead to violence.
