My original idea for my sustained investigations have changed a little bit. Instead of focusing on portraits, I ended up just portraying emotion into the pieces. My focus of the background remained the same and I think I accomplished that focus well. In each piece, the background competes with the subject of the piece.
First of all, that drawing of the hand is INSANE. The shadowing and shading is spot on. I love the background, they kind of look like pills. I also love the idea that your background completes the piece, because that is so true! You definitely have an eye for creating patterns.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with Margaret, I thought the pattern in the hand piece were pills. What happened to the candy bar piece? That would absolutely connect to this body fo work, Jane and I recommend considering it for inclusion in the SI series. I think your purposeful decision to move beyond the external representation of a portrait/figure to convey emotion is a good conceptual step forward. We don't necessarily need a figure or face to show or convey emotion. I am also excited to see your exploration of the digital frontier as a way of expanding your sketchbook work, and original pattern designs. Maybe for a future project you might consider blending multiple hand-drawn and digital elements to create a digital hybrid composite. I also think there is real potential in further investigating the mirroring/bilateral symmetry you have in your last "digital doodle" piece. Another idea worth exploring or building on.
