Meghan Dellose final capstone project with written description

                                                                        "Getting Older"

Written description: This piece represents the two entry points of past/present and transformation/metamorphosis. When I saw these on the sheet, I could not decide on which one to do, so I incorporated both into my work. The top splatter paint is bright, representing immaturity and youth, while the bottom splatter is monochromatic grey, representing maturity and older age. The flow of the color to the grey represents transformation into becoming an older woman. The words represent the woman evolving into an older person.  I used a regular canvas and painted it black. I then splattered paint on it. I used foam core, charcoal, and a sharpie to make the figure. I used foam board with pastels on it to make the words pop. My piece was guided by observation of watching people grow as a person, not just physically. I had to experiment on this project because I did not know how to portray my thoughts and transform them into art. My reflection on this is that people get more mature with age.

  1. I really like the background of the piece, especially how there is a division in the colors used when you transition from the past to the present. I also like how when you transitioned, you also changed the movement of the brush strokes and also the gradient from purple to white. Great job!

  2. Jill I love this so much. I love your choice of making yourself bright white in the middle. It really emphasizes you as the subject. Her expression is even something that exudes matureness and that she knows who she is and is confident in it.
