Sustained Investigation #3 Bella Dayrit

Here is my finished sustained investigation 3! My theme for my sustained investigation is illustrating the layers of identity through color and form. In this specific piece, I wanted to express conflict of identity. In this piece there are two faces, and the main orange one and the one that seems to me fragmenting away in white. I wanted to really express the internal conflict of identity in this piece through showing a girl who is already so emotionally volatile who is putting forth such a strong bold image but is actually falling apart as shown in the second face behind her. I think I’m going to add varnish on top to hopefully make the purple stand out more because it looks almost black. Feedback or suggestions for titles would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Bella, this outcome is an excellent example of a thorough process/planning piece informing the final outcome of the work. Your inclusion of the expressive mark making and literal, physical use of bas relief layers to create a direct tangible link to your concept is very well done-demonstrating "Synthesis" one of the goals of the AP Studio Art sustained investigation project.

  2. I am in awe Bella, this is incredible. I absolutely love the color schemes you used and how you kept consistency and unity throughout the whole piece. Having each face with a different stroke pattern is unique and makes the piece even more interesting than it already is. My favorite part would definitely have to be the background. Adding the colors you used in the faces but making it look so abstract, is amazing. I also love how you kept layered on the white scratches onto the bodies, and to me the face on the far right looks as if she is melting away with the scratches. You did an amazing incredible job! Possible titles could be Layered on Conflicts, Behind the Scenes, Behind the Bold. I also think adding varnish is a great idea.
