For this choice board I chose to work on my Photoshop skills using a photograph I took of the Christiana mall ceiling. I used the panorama tool on my I Phone and created the second photograph. I then went on photoshop, editing and using different filters for each piece. I decided to use this picture because the lines on the ceiling reminded me of the gates where illegal immigrants lie behind when arrested, as well as the gates of immigrant kids in cages, which are some topics I want to focus on in my sustained investigation. I also wanted to experiment with how much I can add to a piece without making it look like bad chaos, so that I can apply this skill to my future works. I could also potentially use this as a background for another piece.
Jocelyn, I am fascinated by the conceptual leap you made between the ceiling of a shopping mall and systems of (inhumane) human confinement. I can't help but then make another conceptual correlation to the idea of a "mall" as a symbol of Capitalist entrapment-both symbolically and architecturally. I am equally impressed with your willingness to experiment in Photoshop with hardly any formalized technical training!
ReplyDeleteWoah, I love all of the different pieces that went into this! This is definitely really meaningful and your thought process is so interesting!
