Bella Dayrit Choice Board 11

For my 11th choice board, I decided to continue working on my sustained investigation experimenting with different approaches. I decided I wanted to do some more gestural work as for my past two works, they've been a lot of photoshop and tracing which is really structured but I wanted to go for a more freeflow approach. I first started just doing some gestural practice but then decided pencil was way too hard to be loose with so I decided to paint over it. I'm really happy with the results and how it turned out so far and think I'll be using a similar approach in my actual sustained investigation however I want to figure out ways I can incorporate layers at the same time in my future piece. I think I'll probably be adding stuff like paper underneath possibly but suggestions for stuff I could add to enhance this piece would be appreciated! Any mixed media suggestions of objects or techniques would be great!

  1. I love the emotion in this picture and the way the model is situated. It fits perfectly with your SI theme.

  2. I absolutely love the texture you use in this piece and how well all of the colors fit together. Have you considered adding possibly adding some darker purple along with the light purple around the face? I really like the paper underneath idea, possible adding newspaper would create something more to focus on in the piece. Great job!

  3. I love how you have been experimenting with so many colors and texture in your pieces. The way you incorporated the purple from the outside into the eyes and some shading looks great!

  5. This is awesome Bella. I love how the colors compliment each other and although they aren't the normal skin tones, each bright or dark color adds so much character to this portrait.
