SI Reflection

Original SI: "I am going to explore feeling emotion through abstract art."

Revised SI: "I am exploring perception vs reality and the role metaperceptions in human identity through abstracts"

Since my original sustained investigation idea my sustained investigation has changed drastically. Originally it was very vague, but since I have narrowed down and zeroed in on the emotion I am exploring. I have decided to make my main focus on the idea of how we think other people perceive us. This is metaperception. Essentially, how other people perceive another person's perception of themselves. In my work I have tackled this idea through my own ideas of how other people perceive me, though in reality it may not be true.

For this third sustained I started to move into my more revised SI. I purposely added chaos in the background to represent how I feel as though people see me as unorganized always trying to catch up on school work when in reality people dont think that deep it is just how I perceive it.

When I first started my sustained investigation as I stated above my theme was emotion. Here I was trying to tackle the emotions of sadness while trying to stay composed. This ties back to my revised SI because I feel this way and I am sure others do to where I try to put on a strong face, but I feel like the rest of the world see right through.  --> I plan on revising this piece

When doing this piece I was also still heavily influenced emotion so in this piece I stayed loose to show happiness. I think this could still tie in with the idea of feeling depressed but knowing people still perceived you as a happy bubbly person.

In the fall I never completed my AP goals however in the next few weeks as things wind down I just want to focus on continuing to build on my sustained investigation now that I have reached a point where I am happy with my sustained investigation and feel confident. An internal goal I have has since the beginning of the year was to get into a more looser art form in painting, and I think I have been able to do so this year. Over the final weeks I want to continue working with texture and paint on canvas to see where I can go with it.
