Jocelyn Zavala-Garcia Sustained Investigation #5

For this Sustained Investigation I wanted to focus on the idea that when immigrants leave, they are leaving behind family members and friends. In this artwork, I am showing a child who is getting arrested after crossing the border, and his mother is worrying about him and his safety at the top corner. Communication is something extremely hard for immigrants, especially for the older generations, so parents just had to hope for the best when their kids leave, dreaming about their safety. Phone calls were expensive and not many people had the money needed to buy a phone or another form of communication.

  1. Jocelyn, I love the amount of research you are putting into this. Also, having the mother at the top adds so much meaning to this piece! Nice work!
