Bella: 2D drawing
Materials: gouache, acrylic, pencil, watercolor
Processes: No reference photo, experimenting with gouache
Ideas: Layers of self, emotions shown by colors
Synthesis: Current version trying to accept her past self, engulfing the other person in warmth
Direct Observation: By using those warm and cold colors, the contrast between the two people is shown. The layers of self and accepting your past self are really expressed throughout this work because the warm, loving person is grabbing on to the cold, sad person. The lighting is spot on which makes this piece look very realistic. The flames behind the warmer person also show that you can be comfortable with your new and old self.
Ava: 2D design
Materials: Photoshop, mod podge, magazine clippings, newspaper, acrylic neon paint, form core, cupcake liner, poster board
Processes: took the picture, found pictures from magazines, found images of him, photoshop to enhance the image
Ideas: Bright colors so he wouldn't get lost in the piece, overlapping images
Synthesis: Really personalized the subject, I feel like I know him from this work
Direct Observation: Overall, I feel like I know Micah from this piece. I can see everything about him, what he likes, and what he looks like. The neon really adds to this piece because it helps the picture of him not get lost in the background of found and magazine clippings. The white outline against the city really helps the contrast and makes me realize that it is a city scene.
Marrissa: 2D drawingMaterials: reference picture, transfer paper, watercolor, liquid acrylic, sharpie
Processes: looked up the heart and recreated it, back painting and then drips, hot and cold colors
Ideas: the drips make the work simplistic yet chaotic (bipolar), splitting the heart down the middle
Synthesis: example of bipolar, "hot and cold" splatters
Direct Observation: I love the purpose of this piece because of all the elements included. The drips and hot and cold colors make this very chaotic but simple, like how bipolar disorder is. The heart in black represents that it is torn and confused between the two colors (moods). The realistic heart and not a fake, cliche heart shows that this is a real issue.
