3/24 Peer Critique Activity-Sustained Investigation #5 (40 points)


AP Studio Art 2D & Drawing Critique/Peer Review Activity 

40 points


At the beginning of class, post a photo of your completed SI #5 to the blog.


*Note-If SI#5 is incomplete, plan to discuss SI#4 to ensure you can participate in this activity.

PART 1: Spend about 10-20 minutes with your peer, each sharing your completed Sustained Investigation project. Discuss your process, materials and ideas and when possible explain how the relationship or synthesis between the two. Make sure to share the following with you peer, who will record your description and explanation for each category. Based on your conversation with the artist, summarize what they said and how they described each of the following components of their piece. Feel free to ask them to elaborate on each of these categories to complete Part 1. 



Materials: physical substances used to make works of art and design 


Processes: physical AND conceptual activities involved with making works of art and design 


Ideas: concepts used to make works of art and design (that can be evident visually or in writing) 


Synthesis: coalescence/integration of materials, processes, AND ideas



PART 2: Next, spend time independently looking at each other’s pieces on your own. Write a paragraph based on your direct observation of the work and summarize the use of 2D or Drawing skills in the piece.


If you are peer critiquing a 2D Design student’s piece, speak to the visual evidence of the following 2D skills evident in the work:


2D skills: use of two dimensional elements and principles - point, line, shape, plane, layer, form, space, texture, color, value, opacity, transparency, time; unity, variety, rhythm, movement, proportion, scale, balance, emphasis, contrast, repetition, figure/ground relationship, connection, juxtaposition, hierarchy 


If you are peer critiquing a Drawing student’s piece, speak to the visual evidence of the following Drawing skills evident in the work:


Drawing skills: use of mark-making, line, surface, space, light and shade, composition 


Create a post and title it (Your Name)-Peer Critique of (Peer’s Name). Include a photo of the student’s project with your written peer critique.
