Margaret- Peer Critique of Savannah

Savannah utilized the black background of her piece as a contrast to the embracing mother and child to show the corruption and neglect of the relationship between parents and their children. The lines of the sweatshirt of the mother bend to imitate the fabric folding. She juxtaposes what seems to be a content image with a forlorn child with a single tear. The materials she used were Acrylic Paint, Photoshop, and Pencil. To create the piece, she used a picture of herself from when she was little, and she started by painting the figures and then incorporated the background into the figures to show a darkness closing in. Her idea for this piece was to represent the internal thoughts of exploited children and how children are forced to grow up when put into difficult situations and hide their emotions. She synthesizes this work with her overall sustained investigation theme as the child is obviously uncomfortable in her relationship with her mother.
