 SUSTAINED INVESTIGATION

1) INQUIRY - 3: The student shows the opposite of emptiness in a skeleton. The idea that was presented in this Investigation was not very clear and consistent. This artwork does not really speak to a viewer because of how inconsistent it is. It feels like the student only wrote their feelings and not expressing them in the artwork. I feel that if the investigation was more consistent and interesting, it would have brought more attention to itself.

2) PRACTICE, EXPERIMENTATION, AND REVISION - 3: The one mixed media piece is smart. This artist needed to have more practice with what he/she was doing before they turned it into an actual project. The written piece has no evidence from the artworks to back it up.

3) MATERIALS, PROCESSES, IDEAS -2: In the artist's description of the bottom picture, she says that she made the drawing transparent to show that we all of humanity inside of us, but there is not much evidence backing it up. I do not think the ideas were well thought out because there is not much consistency within the project as a whole. I believe that the artist did not successfully integrate their ideas on paper.
4) DRAWING SKILLS - 3: This artist is very talented with control with drawing. In the bottom picture, she does make the piece transparent. The second photo does not dig into a skill that much because it looks like a coloring page. The shapes are good but the picture is very bland. The top sketches show me that she has a talent in art because they are great freehand sketches.

SELECTED WORKS

OVERALL SCORE: 5
RATIONALE: This artwork really struck me as interesting. At a personal level, I have a connection to the date 9-17 so I found this very intriguing. I also love the burn marks on the paper, as if the trip is burning away in her memory, without a trace being left behind. It was very smart to include that because it brings a deeper meaning into the piece as a whole. All of the pieces in this are well crafted and carefully thought out. The second and third pieces are very similar and I wish one of them was just a little more different. The relationships with the materials were very good. The drawing skills are moderate, but the artist seemed like they worked hard on this project.
