Bella Dayrit AP Scoring Activity

1. Inquiry- 5
The student evidently integrates and explores their written inquiry of exploring the human body through distortions in order to portray different emotions throughout all their pieces. Both the distortion of the human body and emotion expressed through that clearly guides and is a major recurring theme in each piece. The inquiry is clearly unique to the student's own thoughts and ideas.

2. Practice, Experimentation, and Revision -5
The student evidently use a multitude of materials and tried different mixed media approaches in his work. In the first work, the student effectively uses oil pastel and charcoal on top of the acrylic and ink. Later in piece six, the student mainly uses acrylic however the result differs greatly from his other pieces demonstrating experimentation and revision. The student demonstrates improvement from the third piece to the first because I actually put them in the wrong order by accident when putting down the images in the post.

3. Materials, Processes, and Ideas - 5
The student very evidently demonstrates clear connections between their materials and ideas. The use of white charcoal and oil pastel on top of the acrylic and ink clearly reflects the students written commentary of communicating feelings of pain and despair. In the third piece, the expressive uses of line and mark making successfully evoke and communicate emotions of pain to the viewer. The distortion figure in the third piece expresses the student's intentions of using the human body to communicate emotions. The student's materials and techniques are unique to each of the student's intentions in making their pieces.

4. Drawing Skills- 5
The student clearly has advanced drawing skills as shown in their use of technique and material. In the second piece, the student demonstrates expressive thick brushstrokes and use of complementary colors to make their piece stand out. Their use of black as a statement to illustrate the figure stands out clearly expressing the pain of the piece. The student also has a very complex understanding of depth and color scheme as shown in the third piece.

Part 2: Selected Works

Overall Score: 5

Rationale: Student clearly exemplifies consistent advanced drawing skills in each piece. In the first piece, the student seems to have used stippling, hatching and varying line weight to create depth in the piece. Each piece clearly reflects the students own unique perspective and artistic voice. In the second piece it says that. the student was inspired by online Vaporwave culture which is also clearly evident in the piece with the student's use of fluorescent colors and surreal illustrations of miscellaneous things. Again in the second piece, the student also evidently has an excellent sense of balance and cohesiveness as shown with their use of repeated colors in each area of the piece. Lastly, in the third piece, the student evidently depicts a surrealistic interpretation of their inspiration ,"Kumanthong statues", using great precision in all the little details of the piece. They successfully use color to also draw the eye where they want it to pop and again demonstrate excellent hatching, stippling, and line weight skill.
