Choice Board 3: "Preoccupied: Pollock Inspired" Non-Figurative Design Ava Passehl

I chose to explore non-figurative design for my third choice board. I created this in a moment of worry; I had a stressful day and wanted to channel my energy. I used colors that I felt represented my stress: deep, muted tones of yellow, orange, ball, and maroon. However, it ended up seeming fall-themed, and I like that accidental connection! I decided to name the piece "Preoccupied: Pollock Inspired" because my piece turned out strikingly similar to Pollock's works and incorporates the mindset that my work was created in. For this project, I used acrylic paints splattered with paintbrushes and finger-painted onto the canvas. Overall, I love the process of making abstract art. I feel so free when I add colors and splatter paint in a way that looks good to me instead of following a guide/reference. This piece turned out better the more unexpected elements I added to it, such as the two streaks of white in the corners and the central splatter, which I added after I thought I completed the project. I look forward to making more art like this!

  1. I like your use of different strokes to create chaos is this painting. I feel that you color choices really gave off the feeling of stress as well. Great job :)
