9 Principles of Photographic Composition: Resources

 Hello All!

As requested, I am sharing a few resources for those of you interested in exploring Photography for 2D Design.

1. HERE IS A QUICK VIDEO with 9 Photo Composition tips featuring Steve McCurry, National Geographic Photographer, only about 3 minutes and a very good resource.

2. Here is a link to a reference handout I created in case you'd like to challenge yourself to take one photo exploring each composition principle:

3. Here is a link to a PDF of student work that successfully addresses the 9 Principles. Can you guess which principle is most evident or most successfully explored? HINT: There may be more than one!

*Fun fact about this image: It was awarded a Gold Key at Regionals, then a National Gold Medal and American Visions Award (one of top 50 works in the NATION). It was taken by my former student Munachimso Osegbu (now a famous music video creator working with Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B), when he was in 10th grade. He went on to study Photgraphy at Tisch at NYU. If you look closely on the right, you can see him reflected in the motorcycle, taking the photo from across the street.
