Jocelyn Zavala-Garcia's Choice Board #3: Atmospheric Perspective

The Choice Board prompt I selected was atmospheric perspective and chose to paint my great grandmas's house in Mexico. The materials I used were acrylic paint, paint brushes, a white pen, black sharpie,  acrylic medium, and a tiny canvas. The process I chose to use was to sketch the placement of the main objects like the house, and then paint in an abstract way, looking at the reference picture for some inspiration but choosing to explore different ways of using color. I then choice to use medium to add a more orange looking color to the canvas over the paint. Finally, I outlined certain things in sharpie and others in white pen. Overall, I liked the experience because I got to experience with some new styles of art, such as using white pen over paints. Also, I had never painted something in a very small canvas before, so trying to include a lot of detail in something small was different than I was used to. I also feel like I could have maybe included more objects that were farther away or closer to show more of the perspective aspect. However, I am really happy with how this came out, and will hopefully experiment with more art like this one.

  1. Wow Jocelyn I really love your art style! I also love the personal connection to this piece. I also love that the viewer is able to see the brush strokes and canvas underneath. You should totally submit to Scholastics!

  2. I love this! I love how you used the white to outline the plants and give more definition to the overall structure of the piece. The colors work so well together and I love the composition!
